This video only came into existence because my students asked me to do a step-by-step music production for visuals with them. So I modified an existing animation by making it sensitive to sound and wrote a small piece of music for instruments that some of the students play themselves (bass, violin, flute, vocalist). They liked it and did very well - and the mix of conventional music with an abstract animation is quite nice.
I use a software called Artmatic for the animations. Not a famous software but it's not as complicated to use like processing or vvvv - however the quality of the rendering constantly blows me away.
On the other hand it is not good for live work, there is only limited live control of parameters - and it is not freeware.
